Quintus Domitius, pio, addio!</p></div><div type="commentary" xml:lang="en"><p>The text shows one of the typical differences between Greek and Latin practice: the name Quintus is abbreviated in the Latin version, but written in full in Greek. pius / eusebes could be a third name (cognomen) or just an epithet: the fact that it is translated rather than transliterated, and the fact that pie salve / eusebe chaire is an attested formula in funerary inscriptions (in Latin, specifically in eastern Sicily) suggests it is an epithet. The forms Domitei and peie (for Domiti and pie) suggest the text was written by someone who was primarily a Greek speaker, since it is a Greek tendency to render long Latin i with ei.</p></div><div type="commentary" xml:lang="it"><p>Il testo mostra una delle caratteristiche differenze tra la pratica epigrafica greca e quella latina: il nome Quintus appare abbreviato nella versione latina, ma è scritto per intero nella versione greca. pius / eusebes potrebbe essere un terzo nome (cognomen) o solamente un epiteto: il fatto che sia tradotto e non traslitterato ed il fatto che pie salve / eusebe chaire sia una formula attestata nelle iscrizioni funerarie (in latino, specificatamente nella Sicilia orientale) suggerisce che si tratti di un epiteto.
